Mileage, Messaging, and Miles to Go

Good morning! Today’s lineup feels like a globetrotter’s dream. Alaska Mileage Plan miles are unlocking Hawaiian adventures, T-Mobile is shooting for the stars with satellite-powered messaging, pet travel in the cargo hold isn’t as scary as it seems, and American Airlines is taking outdoor enthusiasts to new heights with fresh routes.

It’s a mix of innovation, travel convenience, and, yes, a touch of wanderlust. Grab your coffee (or Mai Tai), and let’s dive in!

✈️Alaska Airlines Brings Hawaiian Airlines into the Fold 🌴

Big news for travel rewards junkies: Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members can now redeem miles directly for Hawaiian Airlines flights. This comes after Alaska Airlines acquired Hawaiian Airlines in September, setting the stage for a unified loyalty program expected by mid-2025.

For now, miles transfer 1:1 between Alaska Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles, and Hawaiian award flights can be booked on Alaska’s platform using a new (and dynamic) award chart. Translation: you’ve got more flight options—but watch those point values as the dynamic pricing can play a little hard-to-get.

Hawaii, one of the most popular spots for miles redemptions, just got even more accessible. Aloha to seamless bookings and endless sunsets—just don’t forget to double-check which program offers better value before cashing in those miles. 🌺

✈️Paws and Planes: Is Cargo Pet Travel Safe? 🐾

Flying with your furry friends might seem daunting, especially when they’re heading to the cargo hold. But modern aircraft are designed to keep pets safe and comfy during transit, with temperature-controlled, pressurized spaces that feel more "pet spa" than "baggage claim."

Travel crates are key—they’re secure, spacious, and even cozy with familiar items like blankets. Airlines have strict protocols: pets are the last on and first off, minimizing ground time and anxiety. Fire suppression systems and constant monitoring add an extra layer of safety.

Still, preparation is everything. From health checks to proper documentation, a smooth pet travel experience starts long before takeoff. While rare mishaps can occur, the cargo hold is generally safe for pets, offering peace of mind to owners and tail wags to travelers.

✈️American Airlines Takes Off with New Routes and Big Plans

American Airlines is shaking up its network with five new routes for summer 2025, including three Saturday-only flights from New York’s LaGuardia to Bozeman, Kalispell, and Calgary. These flights break LaGuardia’s 1,500-mile perimeter rule (thanks to a Saturday exception), with Kalispell claiming the title of the airport’s longest route at 2,035 miles.

Adding to the outdoor adventure vibes, American will launch Chicago-to-Halifax and Dallas-to-Quebec flights, both Saturday-only. Meanwhile, the LaGuardia-to-Philly route gets axed, likely to better use the precious slot space.

In other news, delays in Boeing 787 Dreamliner deliveries have led to adjustments in American’s wide-body schedule, including reduced Miami-to-Buenos Aires service in April. However, a silver lining: Chicago-to-Barcelona flights will now run through October.

American’s making bold moves—whether you’re chasing glaciers or tapas, their map’s got you covered.

✈️T-Mobile Takes Connectivity to the Stars 🌌📡

Tired of dropping bars in the middle of nowhere? T-Mobile’s new partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink could soon make dead zones a thing of the past. The company is launching a beta trial for satellite-powered messaging in early 2025, with plans to add voice and data capabilities down the road.

Rural and remote users are the big winners here, as satellite connectivity could provide coverage in areas where traditional cell towers fail. Signing up for the beta is free (for now) and requires just your name, email, and phone number. Most modern smartphones, including the Pixel 9 Pro, are reportedly satellite-ready, so chances are your device is good to go.

If T-Mobile succeeds, expect a boost in coverage that could make other carriers green with envy. Register now—this could be the closest thing to having a cell tower in orbit. 🌠
